About this guide

A book of plates, not a brochure

Written for someone who wants to understand a landscape rather than tick off attractions.

Visit North Oxfordshire is an independent guide to the top end of the county: Banbury, Woodstock, Chipping Norton, Deddington and the villages between; the Oxford Canal and what it was built to move; the ironstone that gives every village its colour; Blenheim and the landscape around it.

The site is arranged as a book of plates. The photographs carry the argument and the words are captions to them — working towns in ordinary weather, not golden-hour tourism. There are no opening hours here, no prices, no bookings and no rankings; that material rots, and most of it is a claim about somebody else’s business. Blenheim Palace, the National Trust properties and every named business are third parties, described but never spoken for.

Each plate is credited beneath the image. The guide is written in English, carries no dates, and is underwritten by the firms named on the homepage — they choose a plate; they do not choose what it shows.
