The official website for Banbury, Bicester and surrounding North Oxfordshire countryside
Nature Reserves are peaceful natural spaces for people to relax away from the hustle and bustle of our towns and cities, as well as being inspiring places to teach children about the natural world. They are refuges for wildlife in a countryside that is under increased pressure from development, agriculture and pollution, acting as 'reservoirs' for species from which wildlife could spread back into the countryside if conditions become favourable.
The Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) manages 90 nature reserves across the three counties. These natural places range from woodlands, chalk downs, wetlands and heaths, providing homes for many threatened plants, birds, mammals, reptiles and insects. Nearly half of the reserves are designated SSSI's (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) which are legally protected as they represent some of the UK's best sites for wildlife and geology.
Leaflets on our key nature reserves, including information about the best times to visit, directions and a map of the sites are available from BBOWT.
Support local wildlife by becoming a member of BBOWT from just £2 a month.
