PAINTER

A rich collection of work including landscapes of the Oxfordshire and Cotswold countryside, plant paintings and abstracts.

The landscapes place abstraction into a figurative context using the textures and patterns of the countryside, featuring shapes which recur. His choice of palette exagerates colour suggested by crops such as blue flax or the orange and pink of a newly sprayed field.

The high palette and richly textured surface is reflected in the abstract work which demonstrates a controlled use of form. He plays with perpsective and colour to create shapes which defy construction.

His interest in plants and their transition is depicted in his paintings portraying the life cycle of the cardoon, from lush purple flowers to downy blond seedheads.

Ian's work is widely exhibited and there are a number of private collectors here and abroad. He was a Spink Ledger prize winner and has exhibited at the Institute of Oil Painters at the Mall galleries, London.
