The official website for Banbury, Bicester and surrounding North Oxfordshire countryside
This is a small and peaceful village, situated 6 miles west of Bicester and 12 miles south of Banbury on the Oxford Canal, which links the cathedral cities of Oxford and Coventry. From the time of the Canal’s construction in 1790, it became a highway for goods travelling between the two cities with Heyford opening its own major Wharf. When the railway was built, however, canal trade began to slow down. The highly picturesque Heyford Wharf is still a proper working boatyard and remains a firm favourite amongst tourists arriving to hire canal narrowboats for holidays and daytrips during the summer months. There is also a Village Shop and Café.
